Fairmont tennis posts 1-2 mark at quadrangular

ST. JAMES — The Fairmont Cardinals girls tennis lineup posted a 1-2 record during the St. James Area quadrangular on Friday in St. James.

Fairmont swept the singles bracket to help pace a 6-1 dual-meet triumph over Chanhassen, lost a 6-1 decision to Hutchinson and battled St. James Area in a down-to-the-wire 5-2 defeat at the host Saints’ rackets.

Claire Nemmers coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Emma Oyen at the No. 1 singles position for Fairmont, while teammate Briana Joseph outslugged Chanhassen’s Natasha Gauerke at second singles, 6-7, 7-6, (10-8).

Bergen Senf needed only two games over the minimum to net a 6-2, 6-0 win over Chanhassen’s Alaina Gerding at third singles, while Ellie Hernes completed Fairmont’s sweep of the bracket by posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory ovr Emma Braaten at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.

The Cardinals’ Libby Totzke and Lauren Davis combined court skills to serve a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, (10-7) second doubles loss to Ellie Rathbin and Bella Plath, while Fairmont’s Anika Haugen and Emily Hagen produced back-to-back 6-3 set wins over Megan Miller and Sara Thomas at No. 3 doubles.

Savannah George and Josie Hartman collected Chanhassen’s lone team tally by outlasting Shannon Green and Lauren Green at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

Emily Hagen moved to singles action and produced the Cardinals’ only team point to prevent a Hutchinson shutout. Hagen posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Marlee Harlander at the No. 4 spot in the bracket.

Hutchinson’s Haley Knorr defeated Nemmers at first singles, 6-3, 6-1, while Tigers teammate Britta Johnson outlasted Joseph at the No. 2 spot, 1-6, 7-5, (10-6). Sabrina Tracey completed Hutchinson’s singles play by defeating Lauren Green in back-to-back 6-0 sets at third singles.

The Tigers’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Paige Reveley and Ellie Campbell rolled by Senf and Davis, 6-3, 6-0; Meridith Girard and Alex Hantge combined to defeat Shannon Green and Hernes, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles, while Annie Peterson and Hannah Ladwig completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Libby Totzke and Haugen at the No. 3 position.

Big South Conference rivals St. James Area and Fairmont evenly split four decisive supertiebreakers in place of a full third set as the Saints prevailed by a 5-2 team decision.

Nemmers and Joseph collected the Cardinals’ pair of supertiebreaking victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions, respectively. Nemmers outdueled hard-hitting Ellie Becker, 6-3, 1-6, (10-5), while Joseph rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), (10-6) hard-fought win over Jaelyn Haler.

St. James Area’s Mya Hanson outlasted Hagen at fourth singles, 6-3, 3-6, (10-4), while the Saints’ No. 1 doubles team of Gabby Trapero and Samantha Tetzloff outslugged Senf and Davis at first doubles, 5-7, 6-1 (10-6).

The Saints’ Luci Kulseth needed a second-set tiebreaker win of 7-4 to cap a 6-0, 7-6 third singles win over Lauren Green, while Noel Westcott and Sailor Mohlenbrook downed Hernes and Shannon Green, 6-3, 6-3, at second doubles.

Lexi Whitney and Sofia Solorzano finished off the Saints’ team triumph with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Libby Totzke and Haugen at third doubles.

Fairmont (3-2) plays host to United South Central at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Cardinal Courts.

Blue Earth Area 6, Le Sueur-Henderson 1 — The Blue Earth Area Bucs girls tennis team maintained its perfect dual-meet record by sweeping the doubles bracket to pace a 6-1 non-league victory over the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants on Friday in Le Sueur.

McKenna Dutton and Cali Beyer bested Emma Seaver and Keely Olness at the No. 1 spot in the doubles lineup, 6-4, 6-2, while BEA teammates Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris combined court skills to outlast Anna Pavlo and Darbi Dunning at second doubles, 6-2, 7-5. Addison Armstrong and Kiley Rosenau completed the Bucs’ doubles sweep by coasting by Mia Schwarz and Morgan Jones at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-3.

Macie Stevermer delivered a 6-0, 7-5 second-singles loss to the Giants’ Gretchen Dwyer, while the Bucs’ Arika Howard required only three games over the minimum to net a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Chloe Brandt at No. 3 singles.

BEA’s Marissa Benz rolled by Makenna Reinhardt at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-1, while Greta Nesbit captured LSH’s only team tally via a 6-2, 6-1 first-singles win over Te’a Armstrong at the No. 1 spot.

Blue Earth Area (4-0) travels to Belle Plaine on Monday for a 4 p.m. nonconference dual meet.
