Jordan ousts Fairmont in 2AA softball playoffs

JORDAN — Eight consecutive victories.

Selena Dalton and Myah Briese each belted home runs to power the No. 7-seeded Jordan Jaguars to an 11-1, five-inning victory over the No. 10-seeded Fairmont Cardinals during rainy Section 2AA opening-round softball playoff action Tuesday in Jordan.

Jordan (12-9), which ended the regular season on a seven-game winning streak, advances to face the winner between No. 2-seeded Le Sueur-Henderson and No. 15-seeded Medford in a 5 p.m. sectional second-round postseason clash Thursday at the higher seed’s home diamond.

Fairmont ended its season with a 5-14 overall record.

Dalton, who went 4-for-4 to pace the Jaguars’ 10-hit offensive performance, staked the home team on the sectional scoreboard to an early 3-1 advantage by smacking a solo homer and lining a two-run single.

Jordan starting pitcher Makenna Johnson allowed one earned run on seven hits, recorded two strikeouts and issued a pair of walks in five innings of work to earn the complete-game victory.

Fairmont senior right-hander Jordan Ehlert gave up 11 runs — only five earned — on 10 hits, notched two strikeouts and issued six walks in going the distance inside the chalked circle to take the loss.

Ehlert exits her high school softball career as the Cardinals’ all-time leader in pitching victories, strikeouts, innings pitched and lowest ERA.

Cambrie Anderson singled and scored Fairmont’s only run of the postseason via Chloe Murphy’s RBI hit.

Taylor Crissinger, Lexus Wojtanowicz, Sydney Hainy, Whitney Scott and Hailey Meyers each contributed hits to the Cardinals’ effort.
