B.E. Area softball declaws Jaguars, 8-3

NORTHROP — Emma Dahl tripled, singled and produced a game-best three RBIs to help power the Blue Earth Area Bucs to an 8-3 triumph over the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/ Truman Jaguars during non-league softball action Monday night.

Grace Roiger went 2-for-4 for the Bucs, while Amarrah Smith contributed an RBI single. Lauren Madetzke, Adrianna Granillo and Miya Gustafson each supplied one hit to BEA’s winning ways.

Madetzke allowed three runs — only one earned — on seven hits in seven innings pitched to earn the complete-game victory. Madetzke displayed stellar control by recording seven strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Eden Studer produced three hits, including a pair of doubles, to net one RBI to top the Jaguars, while teammate Chloe Hartman singled and doubled on the night.

Jaguars’ starting pitcher Mandy Pytleski gave up eight runs — four earned — on eight hits, struck out four and issued five walks in seven innings of work to absorb the loss.

Blue Earth Area (3-12) travels to Marshall today for a Big South Conference doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Jaguars play host to Nicollet today in Northrop in a Valley Conference contest.

Mankato Loyola 11, Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman 2 — Ben Ellingworth combined strong pitching with run-producing hitting to power the Crusaders to a nine-run Valley Conference victory over the Jaguars on Monday in Truman.

Ellingworth allowed two runs on six hits, struck out nine and issued only one walk in seven innings pitched to earn the complete-game victory.

Ellingworth also doubled home three runs and crossed the plate twice offensively, while teammate Mathew Salzle tripled home two runs, singled and crossed the plate twice. Caleb Fogal added a two-run single for Loyola.

Ross Balcom went 3-for-6 and collected one RBI to top the Jaguars’ six-hit effort, while Paxton Gravlin singled, drove in one run and scored another run.

Cayden Fischer and Owen Wolter each contributed a single for the Jaguars, with Fischer scoring a run.

Gravlin started on the mound for the Jaguars, giving up three earned runs on three hits, struck out three and walked two in five frames to take the loss.

The Jaguars (7-6, 3-3 Valley) plays host to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at 5 p.m. today in Truman in another conference game.

St. Clair 7, Martin County West 6 — The Cyclones erupted for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning and fended off the Mavericks’ late comeback by one run during Valley Conference action Monday at Fox Lake Area Sports Complex in Welcome.

Derik Miller went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to engineer the Cyclones’ offensive performance, while teammates Ben Anderson and Gabe Holland each went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored apiece.

Payton Anderson went 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored for Martin County West, while teammate Wyatt Geistfeld went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.

Geistfeld finished with three RBIs, while teammate Zac Spear doubled twice in four at-bats.

Holland pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, struck out three and walked four to net the win for the Cyclones.

Blake Jagodzinske started on the mound for the Mavericks, allowed seven runs — four earned — on six hits in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss. Jagodzinske struck out four and walked one.

Donavon Swanson scattered four hits in 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief, striking out one for the Mavericks.

Martin County West (4-9, 3-4 Valley) travels to Cleveland today for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
