Fairmont boys golf team 12th at Red Wing Invite

RED WING — Fairmont senior Tanner DeWar and freshman Alexander Moeller each carded 18-hole rounds of 87 to pace the Cardinals’ 12th-place showing in the Red Wing Invitational on Friday.

DeWar and Moeller shared 36th place overall to pace Fairmont’s team total of 360 at the Mississippi National Golf Course in Red Wing.

David Maakestad fired a round of 92 and teammate Colby Grotte penciled in a 94 to complete the Cardinals’ counting scores. Maakestad tied for 61st individually, while Grotte shared 67th place overall.

Brock Lutterman netted a 101, while Mathew Cone tallied a 104 to round out Fairmont’s effort. Lutterman tied for 81st overall, while Cone placed 84th.

Red Wing fended off Park for the team championship, 310-314, while Farmington captured third place at 317.

Red Wing’s Cecil Belisle connected for the low round of the invitational with a 70, while teammate Michael Stoffel delivered a runner-up mark of 75.

The Farmington trio of Kyle Berg, Kyler Schwamb and Owen Werner — along with Park’s Ty Evans — fired rounds of 76s.

Fairmont plays host to St. Peter at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Interlaken Golf Course in Fairmont.
