Tigers tennis claws Cardinals, 6-1

ALBERT LEA — The Albert Lea Tigers clawed the Fairmont Cardinals during boys tennis action Monday in Albert Lea. Fairmont captured the No. 1 doubles match to prevent an Albert Lea shutout.

Fairmont’s first doubles tandem of Jeb Green and Pete Ortega rallied from a 6-3 first-set loss to Matt Edwards and Cole Indrelic to take the next two, 6-3, 6-4.

At first singles, the Tigers’ Grant Herfendahl took a 6-3, 6-1, win over Ameya Komaragiri, while Albert Lea’s Sam Yoon beat Blake Haugen, 7-5, 6-2, at second singles. Shine Thu took a 7-5, 7-5 decision over Thomas Klanderud at third singles and Joseph Yoon beat Ian Fortune, 7-5, 6-4, at fourth singles.

The Tigers’ No. 2 doubles team of Tim Kreun and Caleb Hanson defeated Evan Carlson and Aaron Hendricks, 6-3, 6-3, while the third doubles team of Conner Veldman and Tim Chalmers beat Fairmont’s Stuart Smick and Jack Hagen, 7-5, 4-6, (10-7).

Fairmont (2-5) travels to St. Peter on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. meet.
