Fairmont girls golfers defeat JCC; Husky boys edge Cardinals

JACKSON — The Fairmont Cardinals girls golf team won its first conference dual meet of the season with a 187-213 decision over the Jackson County Central Huskies on Monday in Jackson.

Bergen Senf led the Cardinals’ winning ways with an even-par, nine-hole medalist round of 37. Senf finished her round with three consecutive birdies.

Maggy Totzke collected second place for the Cardinals on the strength of a round of 48. Solveig Senf carded a 50 and Anna Nordquist delivered a 52 to round out Fairmont’s counting scores. Isabell Geiger penciled in a 54 and Anika Haugen notched a 55.

Regan Farmer, Sydney Sadusky and Megan Gallagher each fired rounds of 53 to top the Huskies, while Neleh Hash chipped in a 54.

On the boys’ side, JCC squeezed by Fairmont, 175-179. Alexander Moeller finished as a co-medalist for the Cardinals, sharing top individual accolades with JCC’s Jack Brinkman with a pair of 41s.

Colby Grotte produced a 45, Tanner DeWar shot a 46 and David Maakestad scored a 47 to account for Fairmont’s counting scores.

Alec Reutzel shot a 68 and Carson Pomerenke hit 69 for the Cardinals.

JCC’s Brinkman (41), Carter Olson (44), Austin Haar (45) and Alec Kocak (45) added up to the Huskies’ 175.

In junior varsity girls play, Bailey Martinson shot a 52, Brynn Gustafson hit a 70 and Rianna Rivera notched an 86.

Ty Nawrocki led the Cardinals’ JV boys with a 56, while Blaze Geiger hit a 58 and Kolton Fritz knocked a 59. Blake Hilgendorf added a 60, Sam Buchan notched a 64 and Kyler Gronewald hit a 65.

The Fairmont boys (1-0, 1-0) and Cardinal girls (7-1, 1-0) face Blue Earth Area in a rescheduled meet at 4:30 p.m. today at Minn-Iowa Golf Course in Elmore.

Blue Earth Area 154, Maple River 169 (Boys) — The Bucs earned a 15-stroke victory over the Eagles at Minn-Iowa Golf Course in Elmore on Monday.

Hunter Spencer led the Bucs with a nine-hole total of 37 on the strength of two birdies, while Braden Gudahl was one shot behind at 38.

Manning Lane parred five holes on the way to shooting a 39, while Ashton Lloyd birdied No. 8 for a 40 to complete BEA’s counting marks.

Gaven Bruellman shot a 42 and Max Ehrich added a 50 to round out the Bucs’ effort.

Maple River’s Andrew Hoppe was the low scorer of the day with seven pars and a par-three birdie on hole five, leading to a nine-hole 35.

Blue Earth Area (1-0) faces Fairmont in a rescheduled meet at 4:30 p.m. today at Minn-Iowa Golf Course in Elmore.

Martin County West 181, Madelia 182, Mountain Lake Area 227 (Boys) — The Mavericks captured a one-stroke victory to earn top team honors in a triangular Monday in Mountain Lake.

Dawson Weber led the meet with a nine-hole medalist round of 39 after making birdie on the par-4 seventh hole, while Mitchell Weber shot a 45 to place fourth as an individual for the Mavericks.

Carson Kahler finished fifth with his score of 48 for MCW, while Hunter Schmidt added a 49, Nic Miller hit a 58 and Evan Roben tallied an 81.

Madelia’s Carson Wihlm placed second on the day with a rare eagle on the par-5 second hole.

Martin County West (1-0) plays Madelia at 4:30 p.m. today at Fox Lake Golf Course.

North Union 230, Eagle Grove 253, West Hancock 255 (Girls) — The Warriors girls golf team won their triangular matchup with Eagle Grove and West Hancock on Monday at the County Greens Golf Course in Armstrong.

Kayla Sabin led the Warriors with a nine-hole 48, while Halle Rezac added a 53. Jordyn Cummins hit a 64 and Hailey Arndorfer notched a 65 for North Union.

Carys Fuller hit a 68 and Rachel Arndorfer collected a 72 for the Warriors.

North Union (3-0) hits the course at 4 p.m. Thursday against Algona and Estherville-Lincoln Central in Armstrong.
