Riveters shut out Cardinals, 5-0
ST. PAUL — The St. Paul/Henry Sibley Riveters shut out the Fairmont Area Cardinals 5-0 during girls hockey action in St. Paul on Friday night.
Gianna Gabrielli scored a hat trick and Solvei Berg-Messerole earned a playmaker to pace the Riveters victory, while goalie Veronica Morse made 13 saves to net the shutout victory.
The Riveters outshot Fairmont Area 52-13 in the matchup.
The scoring started early for the Riveters when Emma Nagel scored off an assist from Molly Shetka at the 15:30 mark of the first period.
In the second period, St. Paul/Henry Sibley added to its lead when Gabrielli scored off a double assist from Berg-Messerole and Shetka with 2:19 remaining in the middle period.
Gabrielli scored two goals in the final period, one off Berg-Messerole’s second assist at the 2:25 mark and the other off a double-assist from Berg-Messerole and Knoll at the 13:50 juncture. Rose Reubish scored an unassisted goal at the 6:18 mark in the final period for St. Paul/Henry Sibley’s final score.
Cardinals goaltender Rachel O’Connor generated a game-high 47 saves on the contest.
Fairmont Area (1-4) plays at Worthington on Tuesday night in a Big South Conference game.
St. Paul/Henry Sibley (2-4) is on the road to face Hill-Murray on Tuesday night.
