Martins deal loss to Bulls

FAIRMONT — Right-hander Matt Lytle pitched seven solid innings, while Adam Schmidt homered to guide the Fairmont Martins to a 7-4 amateur baseball victory over the Jackson Bulls on Sunday.

Lytle allowed four runs on six hits and struck out three in seven innings of work to earn the victory.

Right-handed closer Adam Schmidt recorded three strikeouts and allowed only one hit in two shutout innings of relief to earn the save.

Schmidt also demonstrated his offensive prowess by slugging a home run to produce two RBIs for the Martins, while teammate Jack Waletich generated three hits and three RBIs.

Levi Becker contributed two hits to Fairmont’s winning ways, while Christian Petschke, Scott Chirpich and Spencer Chirpich each supplied a hit.

The Martins (2-1) travel to Windom on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
