Cardinals, Bucs golf split wins in dual meet

ELMORE — The Fairmont Cardinals and Blue Earth Area Bucs split wins during Big South Conference golf play on Thursday at Minn-Iowa Golf Course.

The Cardinals boys team edged out the Bucs, 163-164, while the Bucs girls beat the Cardinals, 204-213.

Tanner DeWar posted a nine-hole medalist score of 37 in the Cardinal boys’ win. Bryan Grotte birdied on Hole No. 2 to generate a score of 40, while Tom Havnen shot a 42.

Colby Grotte rounded out the Cardinals’ counting scores with a 44 for the one-stroke win. Alexander Moeller and Carter Lloyd finished with a 55 and 56, respectively.

Manning Lane and Braden Gudahl each shot 40s for Blue Earth Area. Hunter Spencer and Gaven Bruellman penciled 42s in the meet. Tate Thielfoldt shot a 48, while Nate Murphy totaled a nine-hole score of 51.

Bergen Senf returned to the Cardinal girls’ lineup for a medalist finish of 46, despite the loss.

Mateja Lane had a Bucs-best score of 47. Claire Jordan shot a 50 with Malarie Scholtes one stroke behind at 51.

Olivia Stewart’s 56 allowed the Bucs its final counting score for the win. Serina Wirth and Olivia Myers shot a 64 and 65, respectively.

Fairmont golfer Alexa Mosloski shot a nine-hole total of 52, while Maddy Pierce recorded a 56. Taylor Eicholz chipped in a 57.

Maggy Totzke and Isabell Geiger had nine-hole scores of 59 and 62, respectively.

Fairmont hosts Blue Earth Area in its tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday. Girls tee off at Interlaken Golf Club, while boys play at Rose Lake Golf Course.

Boys Golf

Madelia 173, Truman/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther 196 — Jared Henry shot a 40 for a medalist finish in the Blackhawks’ win over the Jaguars on Thursday in Madelia.

Carson Wihlm shot a 42, while Cade Lunz marked a 45 for the Blackhawks. Matt Baumgartner and Joe Fense each penciled 46s in the victory. Colin Wihlm finished with a nine-hole total of 49.

Parker Stevens led the Jaguars with a 42. Mason Maloney followed with a score of 46. Isaac Johnson shot a 53 and Carter Spear provided the final counting score of 55. Bailey May and Mtichell Steuber shot a 57 and 60, respectively.

Madelia plays in Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton’s Invite at 1:30 p.m. today. Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther hosts Martin County West and Madelia in a dual meet at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Rose Lake Golf Course near Fairmont.

Girls Golf

Madelia 219, Truman/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther 290 — Ally Missling tallied a medalist score of 49 for a Blackhawks win against the Jaguars on Thursday in Madelia.

Jude Frelich garnered runnerup medalist honors with a 53, while Cortney DeVlaeminck shot a 58 for Madelia. Alayna Champlin followed one stroke behind with a 59.

Madelia golfers Angelica Garcia penciled a 67 and Taylor Tierney shot a 71.

Kenlie Pytleski shot a Jaguars-leading 60, followed by Hanna Geistfeld’s nine-hole tally of 67. Emily Johnson marked a 77 score card and Kate Diegnau had the Jaguars’ final counting score of 86. Lexi Flohrs and Anika Jensen finished with a 112 and 115, respectively.

Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther plays host to Madelia and Martin County West at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Rose Lake Golf Course near Fairmont.
