Fairmont golfers finish 5th at St. Peter Invite

ST. PETER — Carter Doose carded a 4-over par 73 to earn top individual medalist honors in guiding the host Saints to first-place honors during the seven-team St. Peter boys golf invitational on Friday.

Doose connected for 10 pars to complement birdies on Nos. 2 and 14 to pace his 38-35 at Shoreland Country Club in St. Peter.

Doose and teammate Joey Wenner, who netted third place overall with a 37-41–78, spearheaded St. Peter’s winning team total of 325 — 10 strokes better than runner-up Waseca.

Bryan Grotte captured fifth place overall with an 18-hole round of 42-39–81, while teammate Tanner DeWar garnered eighth place on the strength of a 41-42–83 to engineer the Fairmont Cardinals’ fifth-place team total of 360.

Bryan Grotte produced a team-best eight pars to pace his low-scoring ways, while DeWar chipped in five pars. Colby Grotte and Carter Lloyd rounded out Fairmont’s counting marks by firing a 51-46–97 and a 49-50–99, respectively. Lloyd sank four pars to highlight his round, while Colby Grotte generated three pars.

Alexander Moeller and Isaac Donnelly rounded out the Cardinals’ performance. Moeller notched a 57-55–112, while Donnelly penciled in a 56-58–114 on the day.

Carson Stepka fired a 36-38–74 to finish one shot off of Doose’s winning pace to steer Le Sueur-Henderson to third place in the team standings with a 342.

The Fairmont boys and girls teams are scheduled to play host to Waseca at 4:15 p.m. today at Interlaken Golf Course in Fairmont.
