Blue Earth Area wrestlers go 2-2 at Wolfpack Invite

COTTAGE GROVE — The Class A, No. 12-ranked Blue Earth Area Bucs wrestling team pocketed two wins and two losses during the Wolfpack Invite on Saturday in Cottage Grove.

Bucs 113-pounder Max Ehrich won all four of his matches, while Wyatt Tungland, Caden Ochsendorf, Cole Klinkner, Zach Buseman, Roger Ziegler and Jesus Quintero won three at their weights.

Ehrich took a 12-1 major decision over Josiah Hedensten despite the Albert Lea Area Tigers beating the Bucs, 56-9.

Tungland supplied the Bucs’ second win by pinning Jesse Hernandez in 3:09 at the 170 weight class.

Tigers 106-pound wrestler Caleb Talamantes beat Davis Sunken, 6-0, and Joe Peterson took an 18-6 major decision over Ochsendorf at 120. Jake Johnsrud used 1:34 to pin Koby Nagel at 126 and Gavin Ignaszewski beat Bucs 132-pounder Jaxen Klinkner, 16-0, for the Tigers.

Tigers 138-pounder Tyler Harms beat Dalton Nagel in a 6-2 decision before teammate Brody Nielsen pinned No. 6-ranked, 145-pound Cole Klinkner in 1:31. Garrett Aldrich then used 2:47 to pin Buseman, who is ranked fourth at 152.

Zach Glazier pinned Ziegler in 2:56 and Brady Nielsen pinned Isaac Martinez in 1:02 at 160 and 182, respectively, to add scoring punch for the Tigers.

Tigers 195-pound wrestler Alex Bledsoe took a 10-8 decision against Quintero and was followed up by Tanner Palmer, who pinned Bucs 220-pounder Jordan Huse in 1:38.

Tigers heavyweight Matt Palmer completed a 2-0 decision againt Trevor Oppedal at 285. Both teams had one point deducted in the match for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Sunken, Ehrich and Ochsendorf all received forfeits en route to the Bucs’ 57-18 win over the Park Wolfpack. Koby Nagel added six more Bucs points with a 1:39 pin on Jake Schwartz.

Peter Oyebanji took an 11-8 decision against Jaxen Klinkner for the Wolfpack’s first points.

Dalton Nagel got his first win of the day with a 10-3 decision against Andrew Diaz, and Cole Klinkner pinned Dan Ruiz in 3:12.

Buseman pinned Devin Long in 3:10, while Ziegler used three minutes to flatten Edric Waindim. Tungland pinned his second opponent of the day, using 1:48 to top Garrett Whitehead. Quintero then pinned Noah Johnson in 1:15.

Andrew Drigans pinned Martinez in 3:19, while Antonio Davis pinned Huse in 3:56. Robert Marrier defeated Oppedal in a 4-0 decision.

The Bucs started their next match with 18 straight points, leading to a 72-4 victory over the Tartan Titans.

Nathan Alvarado used a 13-5 major decision to beat Koby Nagel for the Titans’ only points.

Sunken received a forfeit before Ehrich pinned Cody Alvarado in only 1:45. Ochsendorf pinned Cade Iverson, ending the match in 3:04. Jaxen Klinkner took a 7-2 decision against Zach Dox, while Dalton Nagel defeated Eric DeLacy using a 1:24 pin.

Cole Klinkner, Buseman, Ziegler and Tungland each pinned their opponents for 24 Bucs points. Cole Klinkner took 2:27 to pin Cade Magill, Buseman’s 1:07 pin came against Alexander Den, Ziegler used 1:41 to pin Dane Iverson and Tungland pinned Jared Schmittz in 47 seconds.

Martinez and Quintero each received forfeits before Huse garnered a 6-3 decision over Trey Staves. Oppedal pinned Brandon Floyd in 1:01.

The Wayzata Trojans edged the Bucs, 35-31, in the final match of the invite.

Cael Swenson served Sunken a 6-3 loss to start the Titans, but Ehrich completed his fourth match win with an 11-3 decision against Cole Ciardelli.  Royce Hogue then pinned Koby Nagel in 2:51.

Ochsendorf pinned Roane Zaragoza in 3:10, while Cole Klinkner used 17 seconds to pin Tim Gilse.

Mitchell Hogue recorded a technical fall, defeating Jaxen Klinkner, 19-2 for the Trojans. Parker Cary added an 8-7 decision against Dalton Nagel.

Buseman used 1:08 to pin Peter Ojeda and Ziegler pinned  Adam Grassi in 2:21.

Dan Herda then pinned Tungland in 2:35, and Max Pfau pinned Martinez in 1:43.

Despite Quintero’s 8-6 decision over Calem Eugene, the Trojans recorded two final wins to take the match. Max Bunning defeated Huse in a 3-0 decision, and Bryson Wilkins topped Oppedal, 7-1.

Blue Earth Area hosts New Ulm in a Big South Conference dual meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in Blue Earth.
