BEA places fourth at Invitational

ROCHESTER – The Blue Earth Area Bucs went 2-2 and placed fourth in the Rochester Century Invite on Friday and Saturday in Rochester.

Blue Earth Area (18-10, 7-3 Big South) beat Minneapolis-Patrick Henry, 25-13, 25-8 in their first match Friday. Alissa Norman provided the team with 12 assists and 11 points on 12 serves, including three aces. Sofie Blair and Sam Barslou each knocked down four kills.

Sofie Blair added nine points with three aces on 10 serves. Lindsey Norman totaled five kills, while Kaylor Jacobs recorded five digs. Maddi Oelke also contributed three digs in the win.

The Bucs then defeated Plainview-Elgin-Millville, 25-17, 17-25, 15-8. Sidney Blair led the Bucs with five kills, and Lindsey Norman and Sofie Blair had four apiece. Alissa Norman dished out 15 set assists.

Sofie Blair, Lindsey Norman and Alissa Norman all had a co-team-high eight digs to help the Bucs’ defensive ways. Jacobs chipped in six digs.

Sofie Blair also contributed 11 serves and two aces for seven points. Lindsey Norman nailed 10 serves with an ace for eight points.

On Saturday, Rochester Century won, 25-15, 25-13 over the Bucs in the bracket championship match.

Lindsey Norman chipped in four kills and four digs and Oelke totaled four points on eight serves and three kills. Barslou and Jacobs each tallied two points on five serves with an ace. Alissa Norman finished with nine set assists.

Rochester John Marshall swept the Bucs, 25-19, 25-16 to win the match for third place.

Lindsey Norman ended the final match with four kills and three ace blocks, while Oelke, who chipped in three digs, and Sidney Blair recorded three kills each. Sofie Blair added three ace blocks for the Bucs.

Barslou topped the Bucs’ defensive effort with five digs along with six points and an ace on 10 serves. Brittany Johnson helped with three digs.

Alissa Norman and Jen Scheid dished out eight and six set assists, respectively.

Barslou collected five digs and supplied six points, including an ace serve, on 10 serves.

Blue Earth Area, the No. 3 seed, hosts No. 6-seeded New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva during the Section 2AA, South Sub-section quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday in Blue Earth.
