Warriors scratch Cougars

MANSON, Iowa – Parker Oleson went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and closed out starting pitcher Hunter Pierce’s six-hitter to power the North Union Warriors to a 5-2 victory over the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars during their regular-season baseball finale on Thursday night in Manson, Iowa.

Oleson doubled and was hit by a pair of Cougar deliveries – two of five Warriors to reach base by getting plunked.

Oleson also notched the final out of the game from the mound in his closer’s role. Pierce allowed two earned runs on six hits, struck out seven and issued three walks in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Trent Pedersen and Riley Bauer each collected one hit and scored once for North Union, while Braden Ortman and Brody Fritche contributed one hit apiece.

Tanner Doocy, Jared Larson, Ryan Larson and Robert Ortman each supplied one RBI for the Warriors.

North Union (14-15) opens the Iowa Class 1A, District 4 playoffs against Newell-Fonda at 5 p.m. Tuesday at St. Edmond in Fort Dodge.
