WASECA – The Fairmont Cardinal boys tennis team served a 7-0 loss to the Waseca Bluejays during a Big South Conference dual meet on Thursday in Waseca.

Tyler Head coasted to back-to-back 6-0 set victories over Owen Lewer during No. 1 singles play, while Fairmont teammate Austin Becker produced a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Clayton Tanner at the No. 2 spot in the single bracket.

Carter Klanderud tacked on another team tally for the Cardinals by downing Jim Hoehn in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, at third singles, while Andy Hagen rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) comeback win over Charlie Huttemier at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.

Jake Kallenbach and Eli Green combined court skills at the No. 1 position in the doubles bracket to outlast the Bluejays’ Alex Ebnet and Tom Donelan in a three-setter, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Tony Joseph and Connor Madsen posted back-to-back 6-4 set victories over Jay Lewer and Jacob Butterfield at No. 2 doubles, while Ben Hernes and Shawn Busche capped the doubles sweep with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Isaac Carter and JP Swanson at the No. 3 spot in the bracket.

Fairmont (2-1) plays host to Faribault at 4:30 p.m. today at the Cardinal Courts in Fairmont.

Waseca (0-5) travels to Blue Earth Area on Monday for a 4:30 p.m. dual meet at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.
