Red Bulls fend off St. Peter
ST. PETER – The Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bulls built a large lead before fending off the St. Peter Saints’ late comeback, 37-32, during a Big South Conference wrestling dual Thursday night in St. Peter.
Jordan Wolter jumpstarted the Red Bulls’ charge on the scoreboard by claiming a 3-1 decision over Matthew Pettis during 106-pound action.
FHS/MCW teammate Payton Anderson maintained the momentum with a 12-3 major decision over Wareke Gillette at 113.
Zachary Ringnell received a forfeit for the Red Bulls at 126 before teammate Mario Maldonado pinned Alex Devens at 3:58 of his their 138-pound match.
Elijah Gronewold received a forfeit at 145 for the Red Bulls before Dayton Nielsen earned a fall in 2:40 over the Saints’ Eli Hunt at 152.
Tanner Lange pinned Gavin Thole in exactly one minute to add points for FHS/MCW at 160 before Red Bull teammate Phillip Bowie received a forfeit at 170.
Major Brock received a forfeit at 182 to trigger the Saints’ string of four consecutive victories to close out the dual meet.
Peter Hilligoss earned a fall in 3:06 at 195 for St. Peter, Anthony Putz posted an 8-4 decision at 220, while heavyweight Travis Bock notched a 5-0 victory.
Fairmont/Martin County West (6-1) plays host to Worthington and Fulda at 5 p.m. next Thursday at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.
