E15 - Good for All of Us To the Editor: Minnesota drivers have faced record-high gas prices in the last few months. It’s easy to see the toll that volatility in the global oil market is taking on consumers. But at the heart of some of the world’s most pressing challenges are those in our agricultural industry with a homegrown solution. Farmers have been feeding the world for thousands of years. And now, they’re fueling it. Biofuels like the plant-based ethanol blended into E15 are a clean and affordable energy source that helps save money at the pump and support Minnesota’s ...

Bipartisanship gets the boot

“Can’t we all just get along?!” — Rodney King With the city of Los Angeles engulfed in flames following a controversial verdict that found four policemen not guilty of assault charges against a black man, it was the victim who called for peace. “Can’t we all just get along,” pleaded Rodney King as the city he called home burned to the ground. FACC numbers might be misleading To the Editor: I am a retired long-time resident and taxpayer of Fairmont. I have lived in this town for almost 60 years. In the fall of 2012, we hired Amber Seibert as our first advisor, our first students were enrolled and classes were offered for 9-12 grade. In 2014, 8th graders were offered ag classes in rotation with other classes for 1 year. Those 8th grade ...

Fairmont’s theater re-opening More than two years after closing its doors, Fairmont’s movie theater is re-opening with a new operator. We’d like to thank Rob Mayer for investing in Fairmont and for bringing movies back to the area. We can’t wait to see the theater full of people! FHS students grow downtown flowers Students in Fairmont High School’s plant science class have been working on caring for plants in hanging baskets that will adorn Downtown Plaza. This is an awesome partnership between the school, Smith’s Greenhouse and Project 1590 that will beautify downtown. ...

Keep it civil with teachers, school officials

Mask requirements. Critical Race Theory. “Don’t say Gay.” There was a time not too long ago when controversial topics at a school board meeting were limited to a favorite teacher/administrator/coach not having a contract renewed, dress codes or a an allegedly biased coach. Those were the days. Nationwide, school board meetings have transformed into political arenas, featuring emotionally charged combatants displaying levels of rage you’d associate with Roman gladiators. As expected, school boards are thusly reacting by enacting various measures that ultimately are designed ...
