Family support programs important To the editor: Autism does not destroy families, but a misguided government slashing support programs could. Family support programs were created to fill a need and have been very successful. Our legislators are asked to carefully consider the impact of their votes. Deported immigrants evil To the editor: In Randy Krzmarzick’s recent column, he says we should have empathy for the deported illegal criminals in El Salvador. He condemns Kristi Noem for doing her job, even making a snide remark about the watch she was wearing, saying he was “told” that it was a $50,000 Rolex. Irresponsible American government leaders To the editor: Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a legal resident of the United States. He is just like you or me. Recently, the United States authorities abducted him by mistake and sent him to a concentration camp in El Salvador. The government thought he was a terrorist. The U.S. government refuses to return the man to the United States. In split vote, city keeps engineer In a 3-2 vote on Monday, the Fairmont City Council decided to go with its current engineer, Bolton & Menk, after considering two other firms. While discussion and even debate is healthy, the city council has an infamous history of split votes. More concerning in this case though, was some of the language thrown at the local firm as words like ‘complacent’ were used. FACC’s community center agreement with Fairmont To the editor: The September 2024 draft agreement the FACC had drawn up by their lawyers states who owns and operates the CC. This agreement is between Fairmont City, FACC, and The FACC Holding Company, yes, there is a third entity. Fairmont city will not own the CC building, just the land, which the city leases to FACC, then FACC leases it back to Fairmont. The length of the lease is 20 years. Is beautification of streets important? To the editor: How many people will decide to live in a town based on “beautification” of the streets? We need and are lucky that the street is going to be improved. Opinions fly about high taxes, so let’s not spend extra money on something only a few will pay attention to.
