America needs to wake up to gun problem To the editor: I read about yet another shooting here in the land of Minnesota “nice” – at a Catholic Church in Minneapolis. How long will it take for the USA to wake up from their stupor of stupidity and realize there is no way to have free access to guns and ammunition without the on-going escalation of senseless killing and violence. The humanity is not universally “nice” and we can’t discern the pathological from the sane. Nor can we predict when the seemingly sane person will cross the boundary and go on a rampage. Yet, we ...

Park board recommends amenity shuffling This week the Fairmont Park Board talked about a plan to move the pickleball courts from Veterans Park to where the Skate Park is on Winnebago Avenue and move the Skate Park to be near the Aquatic Park. This plan will address ongoing concerns at both parks. It will also bump up recreational activities for youth near the Aquatic Park as mini golf, ball fields and bike rentals are already there, too. Republicans and Democrats are at each other’s throats. Red and blue states are struggling for dominance. Urban and rural people seem to live in different worlds.
