Fun event serves as fundraiser

Last weekend, Project 1590’s Kids Just Want to Have Fun committee hosted a mother-son event in Fairmont. What a great, annual event that allows for positive interactions between mothers and sons. The group is responsible for several popular attractions and we thank them for working toward making our community better.

Charter Commission members question actions

Several members of the Charter Commission who acted alone should have went before the whole commission for approval on the content and cost of an ad that ran this week in the Photo Press. The Commission overspent its budget and we question the accuracy of the Commission’s reasons to vote yes on a number of charter amendments, which will appear on the election ballot.

Advisory Board reviews concepts, costs

The Community Center Advisory Board met this week to review several different concepts for the proposed community center. This project needs to move forward now, with no more delays. The city needs to move forward and present a design plan with only the YMCA. The Hockey Association needs to be separate and addressed later when the association has the money to expand.

Foster care, daycare info to be shared

Please consider attending an open house Monday if you’re interested at all in learning how to become a licensed in-home daycare provider or child foster home. These are two important needs that have to be addressed and filled in the community. The open house is from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Martin County Human Services building in Fairmont.
