Area support ensures project success
Last weekend, members of the Fairmont Baseball Association, Fairmont Rotary Club and Martin County Area Foundation came together to put up several batting cages at the Winnebago Avenue Sports Complex in Fairmont. The project was made possible with funding from all three organizations. This was a good example of entities coming together to make something positive happen in the community. We’re sure the batting cages will be put to great use.
County moves on funding request
This week the Martin County Commissioners moved forward with a letter of support in requesting $3.5 million in federal funding for the proposed Regional Public Safety and Justice Center. Without funding, the $38.9 million facility could require up to a 5 or 6 percent property tax increase to residents in the county. We’re glad the commissioners are looking into options for funding to lessen some of the burden on the taxpayers.
Area Career Exploration returns
ACE is returning to Fairmont High School this year after two years of cancellations from Covid. The big event allows sophomores from area high schools to learn about dozens of businesses in the area. This is a great event for our students and a great way to show them what’s available to them in the future. We want to thank the different organizations involved- the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce, Martin County Valley Action Council and Fairmont Community Education and Recreation- for all of their hard work in making this possible.
CHW needed to fulfill project
The Martin County CHW Project is looking for a community health worker whose job will be to help keep area seniors safely in their home for as long as possible. This project is made possible with a sizable grant from The Schmeeckle Foundation. This seems like a great way to address the needs of the seniors in our community. We hope the project will really take off once a CHW is hired.
