Square dancing a mix of history and modern
Fairmont’s square dancing club, the Lake Promenaders, has been around for almost 50 years and is the only square dancing club left within a two hour radius. The club may have less members than it did back then, but it still meets on a monthly basis. The club welcomes anyone who wants to learn about square dancing to reach out. We see the important history in this group and are glad it’s still active.
Council talks yard waste site
This week the Fairmont City Council discussed the yard waste recycling site and opted to spend some of its contingency budget toward cleaning it up. It’s used by a lot of people in the community and over recent years has had periods where it’s nearly overflowing. We’re glad the council took some action toward clearing up the site.
Planning sessions see positive start
Thanks to a grant from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, secured by FEDA, a succession planning class was recently offered for area businesses. At the first session in late March, 14 businesses from Fairmont and beyond attended and were given various information on the importance of succession planning. Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce President, Ned Koppen, said rather than business owners closing their shop when retiring, they hope this will help businesses prepare for next steps and in turn keep businesses around. Another session is coming up in April and we hope that one sees good attendance as well.
Project helps those in hospice
Eden Dunker, a local Girl Scout, recently received her Gold Award. For her project, Dunker assembled care kits for those who are in hospice. We’d like to thank Dunker for the work she’s done on this important project that has the potential to positively benefit many families. The recognition Dunker has received is well-deserved.
