FEDA federal grant opportunity
The FEDA board heard about a grant opportunity from Economic Development Coordinator Linsey Preuss during its meeting Tuesday. The grant would fund an economic recovery coordinator. Workforce recruitment and retention is critical to our area. This position would benefit both Fairmont and Blue Earth and the surrounding area. We’re excited to see where this project goes.
Food trucks to park board
The Fairmont City Council on Monday revisited the topic of food trucks and the possibility of bringing the matter to the park board. We think it’s wise for the park board to look into this. All ideas need to be researched and setting fees or regulations shouldn’t be rushed. We agree this should be made part of the council’s strategic planning.
Fairmont Charter Commission openings
On Tuesday the Fairmont Charter Commission voted to present a list of names to be considered for appointment to fill the open positions to the Fairmont Charter Commission. Charter Commission member Chuck Omvig presented the list and recommended that the three members with expiring terms be reappointed. Did the commission discuss accumulating a list of names at previous meetings? Did commission members have a chance to discuss the list presented by Omvig? Obviously not, as the item was added to the agenda on Tuesday evening. Why should expiring members be reappointed? This is not a lifetime appointment.
