Students host annual benefit concert

This week the annual Kids Against Hunger Benefit Concert took place at Fairmont High School. This year a group of junior girls at the school stepped up to organize the concert and we want to thank them for putting in the work to hold this important event. Several hundred dollars was raised that will be used to feed people, both locally, regionally and in other parts of the world.

Opera House expands adult offerings

Last Sunday the Fairmont Opera House offered the first in a series of workshops geared toward adults. The first session covered dancing and future workshops will cover sound design and even directing. This will provide exposure to theater and the different aspects of putting on a production and we hope that adults in the community take advantage of this fun opportunity.

County hears petition against mine

The Martin County Commissioners spent a good deal of time Tuesday considering a petition for an Environmental Assessment Worksheet for a proposed gravel mine in section 25 of Fairmont Township. It was good of the commissioners to hear from both sides of the issue and we’re glad everyone will work together to ensure a safe venture.
