Pond Hockey makes successful return

Last weekend the southern Minnesota pond hockey championship took place on Sisseton Lake in Fairmont. We’re glad the event made a comeback after a two year hiatus due to Covid. The pond hockey tournament is a great event that brings people to town and provides a fun weekend for entertainment for the community.

County awarded watershed grant

Congrats to Martin County on receiving a grant over $800,000 from the Minnesota Board of Soil and Water Resources. The money can be used to reduce pollutant leading into Amber Lake and will thus improve the city’s drinking water. We’re excited to keep an eye on this important project.

Charter Commission finalizes language

Fairmont’s Charter Commission has been working on finalizing language after going over changes it would like to see in several of the city’s charters. This week the Charter Commission spent a great deal of time talking about how and when a city council member can pursue an investigation. It also discussed specific qualifications for the city administrator. It seems that the Charter is short-sighted and that several members have their own agenda. Let’s be more forward thinking.

Challenge benefits Humane Society

Earlier this week the Martin County Humane Society took part in the Betty White Challenge, which called on people to donate to their local animal shelter. This led to the local Humane Society raising over $7,000. It was a great show of community support for a worthy cause.
