Make a resolution to give blood

If you think it’s too late to make a New Year’s resolution, think again. One of the best resolutions you can make is to give blood at a Red Cross blood drive.

Giving blood is easy. It takes a little time out of your day, but it’s not very taxing. In fact, most of the time during your donation you are reclining on a comfy table. And they give you a snack afterward.

Giving blood is positive and makes a difference. The blood you give helps save lives, and that’s a great feeling.

Giving blood makes you part of a vast effort to provide needed blood supplies to hospitals and health care centers around the state. You can take pride in that.

Right now, your donation is needed more than ever. The Red Cross’ blood supplies are dangerously low, the lowest in the past ten years. Because people are being extra cautious with their own health during the COVID pandemic, people aren’t getting out as much, and may be holding off on a visit to the blood drive. And the demand is greater than ever.

If you make a resolution to donate blood, you don’t have long to wait. Here are some scheduled blood drives with current openings.

• Jan. 10, St John Vianney Catholic Church, 1-6 p.m.

• Feb. 15, Best Western, 12:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

• Feb. 16, Best Western, noon-6 p.m.

Register for an appointment to give blood by going to www.redcrossblood.org. A couple of clicks will get you all set up.

After you’ve given blood, you can check that resolution off your list as completed. Of course, you are always free to make another resolution to give blood the next time the bloodmobile is here. It’s a great habit to develop.

Starting at $2.99/week.
