Orchestra program sees growth
The Fairmont Area School District continues to see its orchestra numbers grow. Instructor Katie Hoaglund said this is in part due to a grant the district received several years ago from the Schmeeckle Foundation. The program has grown so much at the elementary school that it moved into a new, bigger classroom this year. Music is such an important thing for our youth to learn and we’re happy to see both the district and the community support the program.
County prepares for possible mandate
This week the Martin County Commissioners had to take action in coming up with a vaccination policy in the event that the Supreme Court passes the vaccine-or-testing mandate aimed at large employers. We think it as wise for the commissioners to take action now and allow staff time to prepare.
Cops shop for local families
Shop with a Cop took place in Fairmont this week. This is a program where police officers shop for local families in need. This is a valuable program, in its 12th year and this year Walmart partnered with the department and offered a large grant to go toward the cause. We want to extend our thanks to them, the Lions Club and individual donors for supporting this wonderful event.
New book shares veteran’s stories
Lenny Tvedten’s new book is a collection of stories from 72 veterans of Martin County. Those included span from WWII to current day. What a great way to share these important stories with the public and future generations to come.
