Learn to Skate
The joint Fairmont Youth Hockey Association and Fairmont CER program, Learn to Skate, is an excellent way to teach youth the fundamentals of skating. Every year dozens of children go through the program and it’s great to see the continued support from parents and the community. The new ice sheet at the Community Center will help grow the program.
Special meetings planned
This week the Fairmont City Council shared about some upcoming special meetings, including a discussion about water quality between different organizations, Minnesota state building code informational meeting and a rental housing ordinance discussion. These meetings will be open to the public so there is no reason not to be informed on these important matters. And good for the city to hold them in an open discussion format.
Advisory Board looks at project management.
The Community Center Advisory Board discussed whether or not an owner’s representative is needed, in addition to a construction manager, for the community center project. We think it makes sense to go with an owner’s rep, especially Tegra since they’ve done the work. It’s exciting to see the project continue to move forward.
Local bookstore turns 75
Good News Bookstore celebrates 75 years of business this year. The downtown Fairmont store is owned by Glendon Olson. Congratulations to Mr. Olson on the success of his business. Good News is a great asset to the community. It’s always great to see local stores flourish.
