School resource officers

It was good to hear from Fairmont Police officers Will Murray and Shannon Bass. We like the positive interaction they are intent on building with students and we appreciate the valuable asset that school resources officers have become.

Kudos to the Fairmont Police Department and the school board for working together on this endeavor. It’s great to know that our students have role models in law enforcement to look up to.

School

Speaking of the schools, we’re glad they’re back in session. There’s no doubt that in-person learning is extremely valuable to students. We’re also glad that school administrators are being careful, and it seems that the district is prepared should there be any disruptions due to COVID-19. We wish students and staff good luck as they get back into the swing of things.

Kinship

Kinship of Martin County is a great program for area youth, and there’s no better way to convey that than with first-hand testimonials. Such testimonials are now on display at the Red Rock Center in Fairmont, with hand-written stories from individuals sharing how mentoring has impacted their lives for the better.

It’s nice to see such efforts come to fruition, and we hope that Kinship is successful in bringing in more mentors for children on their waiting list. Congratulations to Jen Kahler for making this positive display a reality.

Library

It was also good to hear from the Martin County Library this week. We’re glad they’re getting back to normal operations. The library is a valuable resource for our community, and we know they were hit hard by the pandemic. Kudos to all involved
