Truman

The Truman City Council approved a five-year lease with Madelia Health at their recent meeting, in order to provide a five-day per week health facility. This is a great move. In addition, a non-compete clause was removed from the contract so there won’t be a conflict with Mayo if the mobile clinic comes to town.

The council is doing a great job looking out for the health of the town’s citizens and actions like this prove it all the more. Madelia Health is also making a good decision and helping people to refrain from unnecessary travel. Kudos to everyone involved.

Veterans Memorial

The Martin County Veterans Memorial will be honoring women who have served their country, and rightfully so. We agree with those committee members and the Martin County Commissioners for pressing the issue, and it would be nice to see womens’ service honored in more than one way.

There should absolutely be a woman soldier depicted, as their bravery in combat is as note-worthy as their male counterparts. We also agree with those who say that it is important to honor the many female nurses who braved just as much to care for our wounded. We look forward to all that the memorial can and will be.

Threshing Day

We don’t get tired of saying it, it is great to see local festivals and events gearing back up after the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down in 2020. While precautions still need to be taken, people also need to live life at some point. Staying at home all the time and never getting out is a recipe for mental, spiritual, and even physical health crises of a different stripe.

Congratulations and thank you to the Heritage Acres crew for getting this seasonal event back on track. We look forward to it as well as the Play4aCure softball tournament and the upcoming Martin County Fair.

Brian Grensteiner

It’s also good to see Fairmont graduate Brian Grensteiner coming back to the area to take on Andy Trawtow’s former role as co-principal of Fairmont Elementary School. We enjoy seeing Fairmont graduates return to the area, and we have no doubt that Grensteiners passion for working with kids and his appreciation of Fairmont will serve him, and the district, very well.
