Masks
We were glad to see Governor Walz lift the statewide mask mandate following new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It’s about time. However, We agree with Walz that more people need to get vaccinated. It’s time for those who have not been vaccinated to finish the job and get it done.
Pheasant Opener
It was disappointing to see the Visit Fairmont Board of Directors decided that they couldn’t host the 2021 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener. Now the state has to find another host in just a few short months.
It seems that a lot of the leg work was already done, and we think it should have gone ahead. We agree with Stephanie Busiahn that it was a tough call and it would have been nice to see the decision swing the other way.
Food Truck
We want to extend a hearty welcome to Eric Selman and look forward to enjoying his new food truck business. Selman is not only bringing a new and different flavor to town, he’s looking to be a part of the community. His dedication to sourcing his ingredients locally via farmer’s markets, and butcher shops is commendable. We’re sure his truck, opening today at the intersection of State Street and Tilden Street, will be a hit.
FHS Ag Department
Kudos to the FHS Ag program for organizing and holding a plant sale. We agree with Ag teacher and FFA advisor, Katie Elder, who said the sale is a good opportunity to reach out to the community.
The school’s greenhouse is awesome, and it’s just another part of the vocational wing that’s so good for our community. It’s going to provide a lot of jobs and help students who may not be interested in going to a four-year school. We can’t say enough how much we appreciate the opportunities being provided to our students.
