FHS Trades Building

The Fairmont School Board is seeking positive reviews and comments from the Minnesota Department of Education so they can present a $6.7 million bonding bill for the building of a 13,860 sq. foot construction trades building at the Fairmont High School. This is another great addition to the already strong vocational wing at FHS. The vocational wing already includes successful Ag, Culinary, Auto & Small Engine, Building and Trades, and Welding programs. All these programs are not only great for FHS students but for area students as well. They also provide skilled workers for our area businesses.

If approved by the MDE, we hope voters in the district will support this $6.7 million project at the February 9, 2021, special election.

Iowa Lakes looks at SMEC

We hope another educational opportunity comes to fruition. Thanks to Fairmont City Administrator, Cathy Reynolds reaching out to Iowa Lakes Community College and exploring the possibility of them using the city-owned Southern Minnesota Educational Campus as a workforce training site. While just in the exploratory stages, the programs from ILCC would provide employees custom training and short-term training sessions that would benefit local businesses.

Businesses can offer their input at a pair of sessions on November 19 at the SMEC building or a virtual forum. Businesses can contact, Fairmont Economic Development coordinator, Lindsey Preuss at 507-238-3925 to reserve their spot at one of these sessions.

Holiday Cheer

Thank you Fairmont Roofing for establishing your “Season of Giving” which will provide everything a family would need to make a Thanksgiving Day meal. They are looking for the community to nominate people they are aware of that may need a little cheer this holiday season. Fairmont Roofing is taking nominations of area families or individuals through its website: www.fairmontroofing.com.

Thank you Fairmont Roofing for your investment in our community and your giving spirit.
