Some Americans, it seems, have forgotten

Fourteen years ago, Americans were brutally shocked out of our complacency regarding Islamic terrorism when organized murderers used aircraft in a massive attack on us.

We learned quickly the assault had been mounted by al-Qaida terrorists who enjoyed a safe haven in Afghanistan, courtesy of that country’s vicious Taliban rulers. A U.S.-led coalition ousted the Taliban and put al-Qaida on the run.

Never again would we allow that to happen, Americans vowed.

History may be about to repeat itself. In large measure because President Barack Obama has decided to abandon Afghanistan to fend for itself, the Taliban are poised to re-conquer the country. If that happens, they may resume serving as hosts for terrorists.

Worse yet, other Islamic terrorists sponsored by Iran are being given a free pass by this White House.

Obama is pushing for Congress to allow him to implement a deal he claims will keep Iran from building nuclear weapons. There are many reasons to believe it will do no such thing.

But so eager was the president to get a deal – any deal – that his negotiators required no disavowal of terrorism by Iranian officials. They will be free to sponsor more attacks, including some in which Americans are targets.

Never again, Americans vowed 14 years ago after we suffered the consequences of allowing state-hosted and sponsored terrorism.

Have we forgotten 9/11 so quickly?
