Kids Against Hunger Needs You!

To the editor:

Martin County Kids Against Hunger is again planning a pack of 100,000 meals on Feb. 7 at the Fairmont Armory. The demand for packed meals is great in our world and in our neighborhoods. It is very likely that the majority of this year’s pack will get shipped to Chad in Africa where Sudanese refugees are in makeshift camps. They’ve been driven from their country due to conflict and are being fed and cared for by many humanitarian organizations, including Kids Against Hunger and Doctors Without Borders. One camp has 750,000 refugees and half of them are under the age of 12! Many of us cannot imagine the kind of conditions these people are living in with their children! Kids Against Hunger packages a very carefully designed super food – full of protein and 21 vitamins and minerals to provide all the nutrition a person needs in a day!

We also provide packaged meals to local food shelves – as much as they request from us. Last year, over 11,000 meals stayed in Martin County! We welcome whatever you can do for us to help us succeed:

1. Visit https://kahfairmontmn.weebly.com and sign up a team of ten people to help pack for two hours. We have spots left from 11:30-1:30. Families can pack together – we’ve had six and seven year olds do a great job!

2. Donate to help us reach the $30,000 that pays for the food we pack. Donations can be sent to Sue Homan at 921 Hengen Street Fairmont, MN 56031. They are tax-deductible – AND they help save lives!

3. Call Karen at (507) 848-1260 to offer other help for the day. We need people to supervise each table or fill the tubs with soy and rice as we pack.

We can make this happen! Mother Teresa once said, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot, together we can do great things.”
