Do the right thing, SAVE THE OPERA HOUSE

To the editor:

I am so angry about the whole debacle that was the downfall of our Community Center. From the change in the language on the ballot, the frivolous lawsuit, a City Council that can’t work together to accomplish much of anything!

I am only one person, I do not escape MN winters by going south, am a Senior Citizen who has lived in this community my entire life and paid taxes for 50 of those years and was thoroughly looking forward to being able to enjoy exercising while socializing with friends and making new ones for nine months out of the year at a Community Center pool. And I know I am not alone! If the Community Center is not to be resurrected in my lifetime, please do the right thing and redirect some of those funds to the Fairmont Opera House! There is more than enough for this and other projects, too. No more games, no more disagreement, just one thing that may help make Fairmont a viable place for its citizens and those considering coming here to call it home.

And finally, to the FACC group, my heartfelt thanks for all your efforts to bring this dream to fruition, pouring years into this project, making & securing personal pledges and securing land from MCHS, my heartfelt thanks for believing in something this big for us.

The Opera House has been a valued member of this community for 124 years and holds the distinction of being Minnesota’s oldest operating theater. It has fallen on hard times. Is this how you would treat a neighbor or friend, turn your back on them when they need your help the most? Is this the kind of community you want to live in?

NOW DO THE RIGHT THING, GET CREATIVE AND REDIRECT SOME OF THOSE FUNDS TO THE FAIRMONT OPERA HOUSE TODAY BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!
