Consider supporting Kids Against Hunger

To the Editor:

I’m writing to encourage participation and support of the 17th annual Martin County Kids Against Hunger fund raiser and food pack from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2026 at the Fairmont National Guard Armory.

For the past two years I have participated in the food pack along with my wife Vicky Sagehorn Forst who encouraged me to help out with this very worthwhile cause. In 2026 it’s our goal to pack 100,000 single serving meals and raise $30,000 in monetary donations.

In 2025 we packaged over 108,000 meals thanks to the great support and participation of the Martin County community and businesses. Its great to see such support and the Community pulling together for a worthy cause.

To date, there are already 20 teams signed up for the event and the goal is to get 32. I encourage everyone to seriously consider participating. Many hands make for light work and I have found it’s actually an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday in February.

As we embark on this Holiday Season we need to be thankful for all the basic Blessings most of us enjoy, one of those being an ample food supply. We need to remember those who do not enjoy that privilege so many of us take for granted every day. Kids Against Hunger is a great way to give back by helping those less fortunate and I encourage your support by your gift of time & talent or a monetary donation to support the cause. Thanks to all who have been involved in this program in the past and to all of you for considering involvement.
