Misrepresenting MLK Jr.

To the Editor:

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, the Sentinel ran a picture of Fairmont High School’s co-principal teaching equity on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. MLK believed in liberty, free speech and equality, not “equity” which is a stepping stone to socialism. Equity treats people unequally through preferential treatment. He wanted his children to be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. He wanted then to be successful citizens, not victims.

Students today are taught that they need the government to succeed. Big government is usually the problem, not the solution. Students should be taught personal responsibility and NOT that they are the victims. If you take out a student loan, PAY IT BACK.

Next year on MLK’s birthday maybe you should teach the constitution and not this “woke” ideology. I worry about what new “woke” ideas these school leaders will come up with next-having tampon dispensers in the boys bathrooms??
