A vote with no explanation
To the Editor:
How sad it is to know that 3 members of our city council, with no explanations for their vote, can strike down the hard work of a group of people with a vision to help Fairmont grow. The proposed Community Center/YMCA would have been a facility for all people young and old to utilize year around if they chose to do so.
Yes, Fairmont has 5 lakes, lots of parks, an aquatic park, etc., but most of these amenities can only be utilized in the summer months.
We can build a multi-million dollar water treatment plant, a multi-million dollar maintenance facility to house City equipment and a multi-million dollar vocational wing to our high school all paid for with taxpayer dollars but a few council members can decide against the vision a group had to build a facility with little or no cost to the/us taxpayers. Several million dollars were already committed to fund the building of the community center. So why did you 3 council members vote ‘No’ to allow the FACC Foundation Board to move forward with this facility?
