Look at long-range picture

To the Editor:

A quote I just came across that relates to national politics, but just as well to local issues that Fairmont is currently struggling with. “I wish people when responding to a comment, would really consider whether their comments actually add value — there are far too many reactive, bitter, slanderous comments that do nothing to create an actual dialogue, and often they are coupled with mean-spirited comments about the person(s) they disagree with. We can do better.” Ginn.

We as a community will long bear the fruits of decisions to be made in the near future. Let us not look back and say “We shouldn’t have” or “We missed an opportunity” as community leaders have in the past. Those “leaders” missed out on a community college and kept putting off street and sewer repairs which we are paying for now. Are we going to make decisions similar to those made in the past which affect the quality of life in our community.

Can we, at this time, look forward positively and think about how our decisions will bring added amenities to our youth, attract people and businesses and improve the overall quality of life for our community as a whole. Let’s look at the bigger more long range picture. I pray for smart, level-headed and futuristic thinking as our leaders determine the need for a community center.
