Thoughts after the elections

To the Editor:

I assume most of you feel the same way I do about the elections. I am so glad they are over. Everything didn’t turn out the way I wanted but we must move on. Now the community needs to come together and heal wounds suffered by all those who worked so hard for their favorite issues. I was saddened by the attacks from both sides of the issues. To see this in our local community seemed so out of place, it is expected in the state and federal elections. I say, “Can’t we disagree without being disagreeable?” The issue of the Fairmont Area Community Center is and has been in the news for several years. I am an old man and at this point I don’t know if it would be useful to me and my wife. The one thing I do know is inflation will raise the cost of the center the longer it is put off. I think the stake holders need to step up with their best efforts to get the FULL center proposed with all costs and funding laid out there. If a piece meal center is proposed it will only cost us more money in the long run, remember inflation. In the past I wouldn’t have supported a community center at all but that was selfish. As taxpayers we support the police, fire and infrastructure projects. The center will benefit the community as a whole. We need to bite the bullet and get it done. Sure it will raise our taxes a little but that is the cost of living in a city.
