Fairmont voters will make right vote
To the Editor:
I am writing my views about the Charter Commission. I served 30 years ago and there were major changes. This time we proposed the amendment to go to 5 wards to get equal representation for all wards. Fairmont is a Home Rule City which gives us more latitude. We have to govern within state statutes. The Charter is basically our constitution on how our city government functions. Our District Judge appoints the members. We are not a secret organization and have no bias against no one. We respect the mayor, the city council and the chain of command. Any voter should feel free to call any member. The voters of Fairmont will do an informed vote on the amendments which we encourage. Mr. Peters has contacted only one of our commission members, who voted in the minority which is his right and opinion. It’s always good to talk to more than one person. All the amendments were voted by majority, 8 to 4 and 9 to 3. We have both conservatives and liberals and all amendments were seriously debated. I have a lot of respect for our chairman, Mike Katzenmeyer, and our members. Again, voters of Fairmont will make a right vote, one way or the other, democratically. It’s your vote.
