No on Charter Commission amendments
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to the front page article in the Photo Press regarding the amendments proposed by the Fairmont Charter Commission. I am a member of the commission, but am not in favor of these amendments and was very unhappy to see my name listed below the article indicating my support.
The amendments were voted down by the City Council, but some members of the Charter Commission decided to not abide by this decision and put it on the ballot. There are several of us that did not agree, and we are encouraging citizens to vote NO on the amendment questions. We feel that they are not necessary and in some cases may be detrimental to the city council. After several years of difficulty with our city politics, let’s allow them to work on the important issues facing our city without additional stress and change.
I would also like to give my endorsement to the following candidates:
Charles Pearson — Mayor
Deb Foster — Ward 3
Jay Maynard — Ward 1
I feel these candidates will bring knowledge and stability to our City Council.
Thank you,
Bob Gunther
Fairmont
