Garden Party & Plant Swap a success

To the Editor:

City of Lakes Garden Club hosted its third garden party and plant swap on Saturday, June 11, in conjunction with Interlaken Heritage Days. The event was held at Lincoln Park on a cool drizzly morning but we didn’t let a little rain stop our fun.

Garden enthusiasts from all over the area were able to bring garden-related items to swap with others and take home new treasurers for their own gardens. There was hot coffee and plenty of goodies to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth and lots of fun crafts and activities for the kids and young-at-heart to enjoy.

The silent auction was successful again this year, and the winner of the door prize, a garden kneeler/seat, was Elayne Hested. All proceeds from the garden party & plant swap will allow the garden club to continue its civic and educational projects in the community.

Another benefit was gaining several new members to our garden club from this event. If you are interested in getting more information about or joining the City of Lakes Garden Club, please text or call Leslie Walkowiak at (651) 895-6578. Visitors and new members are always welcome, but please call ahead of time so that adequate accommodations can be provided.

Our next meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at 1471 220th Avenue in rural Fairmont. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. There will be a business meeting followed by an informative presentation, Methods of Gardening – “Native Plants & Wildflowers/Touring Elisa’s Gardens.”

Thank you to one and all who made this event such a wonderful success and for supporting the City of Lakes Garden Club again this year. Happy gardening.

Leslie A Walkowiak,

president, City of Lakes Garden Club
