You can help feed the world
To the Editor:
We all know that our world is faced with a serious hunger problem, at home and abroad. But what can we do? It probably takes a lot of money to make the meals for the needy, I would have to spend so much time packing all the food, and it’s impossible to send the meals overseas. Right?
Think again. Our local Kids Against Hunger Committee works diligently to truly make a difference. It only takes 23 cents to pack a meal that provides all the nutrition needed for the entire day. That is less than your cup of coffee. How about the time issue? Our food pack shifts run only two hours long. Our packing location has changed this year. It will be held at the National Guard Armory on Saturday, Feb. 12, with shifts running between 8:30a.m. and 4 p.m. You can sign up through our website at kahfairmontmn.weebly.com or by calling Mrs. Karen Sandhurst at (507) 848-1260. There are still plenty of time slots open.
To help support the food pack, we will hold The Kids Against Hunger Benefit Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2. It will be held in The Cardinal Center for Performing Arts at the Fairmont Jr./Sr. High School. This year the concert’s theme is “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.” and will feature talented youth performing a variety of acts. The concert is free to attend, but a free will donation will be taken to support the food pack on Feb. 12. Free root beer floats will be provided as a thank-you for attending. Otherwise, tax-deductible donations can be sent to: Kids Against Hunger, c/o Sue Homan, 921 Hengen Street, Fairmont, MN 56031.
Last year, our event alone packed 139,104 meals with over 500 volunteers. We have even received photos from Haiti of children enjoying the very food we packed. Throughout our local committee’s 11 year history we have packed 1,241,260 meals, and that is, a difference we can make.
