‘Food for thought’

To the Editor:

Food, it is something many of us take for granted because there is always food in the fridge, on the table or at the store that we have access to. But in some countries there are people who have very little food, whether it be access to it or the money to purchase it.

During this time of year we rarely think about whether we have food or not, because we have plenty of goodies and Christmas food to munch on. To some, one piece of Christmas candy, one cookie, or just a morsel of bread would be received with great joy and that one piece would be parceled out over a period of time, or shared with others who also suffer from lack of food.

I want to give you some food for thought during this time of Advent and Christmas. We all have an opportunity to feed others, especially those who are in need of daily nutrition in this country and worldwide. That opportunity is through the Kids Against Hunger (KAH) Food Pack that will be taking place in Martin County on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at the Fairmont National Guard Armory.

Why am I telling you about this now? Here are some reasons: 1. You and your family/friends can sign up online to be part of the food pack (or make it a competition and sign up 2 or more teams from your church/business/family), and 2. We are taking monetary donations from businesses and individuals to help cover the cost of food packed. To sign up for a two-hour shift or to make a donation, contact Karen Sandhurst at (507) 848-1260 or email us at kahfairmontmn@gmail.com

A little food goes a long way in helping those in need and you can be a part of it by joining us at the food pack or giving a monetary donation. We are blessed with much, pass that blessing on to others.
