Immigration policy creating orphans

To the Editor:

We were appalled to learn that the Trump administration is unable to locate the parents of 545 children who are still in government custody. These children, and many others, were separated from their parents when they attempted to gain admittance to the United States.

Immigration officials failed to keep track of children and their parents, deported many of the parents without their children, and thus have created orphans of these poor children. This callous and cruel treatment of immigrant children borders on “reckless disregard for human life,” which is the definition of manslaughter in many states.
