Relay for Life adapting

To the Editor:

Relay for Life looks different this year. Now more than ever, cancer patients and researchers need your help to sustain the fight against cancer. Our life-saving mission has been threatened by suspended events and a decrease in donations.

One out of three people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Fundraising helps even the odds in the fight against cancer. The funds raised through Relay for Life will not only honor survivors and remember loved ones, but also help give cancer patients and their families the resources they need, with breakthrough research, crucial patient care programs, cancer screenings, education, prevention initiatives and a live 24/7 helpline for answers and support. Cancer information, answers and hope are available every minute of every day by calling (800) 227-2345.

We are planning a drive-through luminaria ceremony Sept. 26 at the Martin County Fairgrounds. You won’t need to get out of your car to enjoy the event and see all the luminarias. Time and details are still being planned. A virtual Relay on Facebook “Stronger Together Minnesota-Relay for Life” will be 6-8 p.m. Aug. 1 on the American Cancer Society MN Facebook page.

Your support is urgently needed. The funds raised help everyone with cancer. We are selling luminarias and taking donations Please contact your favorite Martin County Relay for Life team to purchase luminaria and/or make a donation. Donations may also be taken to US Bank. Make all checks payable to American Cancer Society. If you have questions, please contact me at gjwmgw@frontiernet.net or (507) 236-2034 by phone or text.
