Support appreciated

To the Editor:

Martin County Humane Society thanks the community for its caring and generous support of our annual “Paws for Cause” golf outing held June 22. The support was greatly needed and appreciated in these trying times.

We thank the golfers, prize donors, volunteers, Rose Lake Golf Club and our hole sponsors — Exit Realty, Car Parts Direct, Fairmont Police Officers Association, Dr. Roger and Beth Neist and family, Welcome Motors, Borchardt Insurance, Lawn Solutions, Peterson Anthony Insurance, Richard’s Auto Repair and Towing, Fairmont National Agency and Sweet Financial. All this support helps us make a difference.

Can’t people behave?

To the Editor:

I understand and agree with the dire need for talks concerning better vetting and accountability of rogue policemen. What I don’t understand is how we can reasonably expect anything to actually change unless there are companion talks about improving the attitudes and behaviors of those who cause a ruckus, which of course is usually what brings the two together in the first place. Is it unreasonable to think that a lot of “the problem” would simply disappear if people would simply behave themselves?
