Band cancels season

To the Editor:

After much discussion and deep consideration, the Fairmont City Band Board has sadly decided to cancel the 2020 summer band season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We feel this is what’s best for the health and safety of all our band and audience members.

We eagerly look forward to the 2021 season and hope band members and the community will join us once again.

Thank you.

Showing a lack of respect

To the Editor:

Recently, the current office holder of POTUS has heaped rude criticism at the U.S. Postal Service. With all due respect, these harsh, nasty words are mean-spirited, unkind and untruthful.

The Postal Service is an amazing organization serving our country for decades. Its thousands of workers across this country try hard every day to ensure that our letters and packages reach their destinations safely and on time, whether that destination is a small cabin in Alaska or an apartment in a high-rise building downtown Chicago. The United States is fortunate to have such a top-notch service.

Here in Fairmont, the staff at the local post office has always, every day, without fail, treated me with kindness and respect. The people here are professional and extremely helpful. They do not in any way deserve the mean, angry words spouting from the foul mouth of the person in the office of the POTUS.

In all my life, and I have sent packages and letters around the country and across the globe and never, not once, ever, has a letter been lost or not arrived at its assigned destination.

If you have time, please thank your postman or postwoman and the staff at the local post office for all their work.

Thank you for your time.
