Hope to see you there

To the Editor:

Kids Against Hunger is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating the problem of hunger here in the U.S. and across the world. Since its launch, Kids Against Hunger has provided more than 2 billion meals to malnourished children and families in over 70 countries through the efforts of hundreds of thousands of generous volunteers. Each year, our community comes together to help add to this number.

Throughout the years, Martin County has contributed to the Kids Against Hunger mission through our annual food pack and benefit concert. In the 10 years KAH has been in Fairmont, we have packed over 965,644 meals and raised over $245,300.

This year, our 11th annual Kids Against Hunger Benefit Concert will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, in the Performing Arts Center at Fairmont High School.

This year, the theme for the benefit concert is “Imagine.” We’d like for you to imagine a perfect world: a world without hunger and filled with peace. The talented youth from our community will put on a variety of acts — from singers and dancers to blacklight skits and everything in between.

This is a community event, and all ages are welcome. The show is free to attend, but a donation will be taken during the concert. Free root beer floats will be served after the concert as a thank-you. All collections will go to funding our local Kids Against Hunger food pack on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Over 850 million people go to bed hungry each night. We can sit and wait for this number to decrease, or we can do something. We have the opportunity to help the starving children and be a blessing to those in need. All it takes is a quarter to provide a meal for a hungry child. We hope to see you at the benefit concert and food pack.

“If you cannot feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” – Mother Teresa.
