Thank you, Hockey Association

To the Editor:

On behalf of MERGE (area youth organization leaders), we would like to thank the Fairmont Hockey Association for opening their doors for us from 3-6 p.m. on the afternoon of Dec. 29. The rink was buzzing with excitement as families gathered for a time of open skating, and later teens and adults gathered for a broomball tournament.

It is estimated that more than 100 people participated during the open skate. Kids from as young as 2 or 3 up to parents and grandparents enjoyed the time together and had fun testing out their skating skills. Then, after open skate wrapped up, six teams of teens and adults suited up for broomball. A great time was had by all, and it was a blast to get to watch everyone enjoying themselves while they played.

The Fairmont Hockey Association donated the ice time to us, even keeping concessions open while we were there. The only cost to those who attended was their skate rental and any treats they chose to buy. We are so thankful to have people that provide our community with these low-cost or free opportunities to have fun together, especially for our youth.
